Supporting Charities
Supporting CHUF
As an initiative for Christmas 2021, we were delighted to be supporting CHUF, the Children’s Heart Unit Fund, by enabling their customers to make a donation to this North East charity whilst still making a saving on every purchase.
This amazing charity recently moved offices to Gateshead, just around the corner from the Spicers of Hythe facility. After such a tough couple of years for everyone, we were looking for a way to give back to the North East community this year, and CHUF was the natural choice.
CHUF supports children and their families who are receiving treatment at the Children’s Heart Unit based in the Freeman Hospital and the many other hospitals providing care for cardiac patients throughout the North of England. This includes everything from essential equipment and specialist nurses to ice cream van visits and clown doctors. They also work extremely hard every year to ensure that Christmas is as special for all the families they support, whether that’s providing gifts and a visit from Santa’s reindeer to those in the hospital, or funding technical equipment that enables children to spend time at home over the festive period.

We created a special offer, exclusively for North East businesses, to make a donation to CHUF whilst still saving money on their corporate hampers during the Christmas period of 2021.
With your support, we raised over £5,000 to make a real difference for CHUF’s Heart Heroes and their families.
We're huge fans of the work that CHUF are doing, not only for children in the surrounding areas to Spicers of Hythe but for the whole UK. Find out everything you need to know about CHUF by clicking the button below...
Our Huge Charity Hamper Competition
In the Winter of 2022, we opened up our £800 Charity Hamper competition to Spicers of Hythe social media followers & email subscribers.
We were offering the chance to win a hamper of your choice, up to the value of £400, with one gift being delivered to your door & one gift being delivered to the charity that you nominate.
Our followers weren't shy of making use of the full £400 budget they had to spend on their potential winnings. Show-stopping hampers such as The Extravaganza, The Festive Celebration & The Yuletide Splendour received huge attention when it came to the gifts that were nominated.
As you might imagine there was a huge spectrum of charities nominated as part of this competition. Everything from local animal shelters, to worldwide organisations that have no doubt helped someone close to them. Entries included charities like the RNLI, St. David's Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Care, Lumos & so many more.
We were hugely thankful for all of the entries but there of course could only be one winner...

After announcing the winner, we congratulated Angie & her chosen charity, The Northumbrian Hedgehog Rescue on the pair of Yuletide Splendour Christmas gift boxes they had won.
This came as a great surprise to the chosen charity as they had no knowledge of their nomination , while also giving them the freedom to use the prize in the best way they could find.
The Northumbrian Hedgehog Rescue decided to split their huge hamper into 5 smaller gifts & raised over £300 as part of a raffle.
Our Contribution To Macmillan's Biggest Ever Coffee Morning
On Friday the 29th of September we took part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Trust.
With help from our huge team of home bakers there was a huge choice of sweets treats to dig into while enjoying a fresh coffee. Not to forget the contribution from "Phil's Grill" providing sausage sandwiches to our workforce in return for a donation to such a worthy cause.
Through the generosity of our team, we raised over £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support, this was announced over on our Instagram & Linked In social media accounts.

Thanking us over on our Instagram post, Macmillan Cancer's official account commented to say:
"Thank you so much for baking a difference. We're bowled over by your support. The amazing £513.65 raised could pay for a Macmillan professional to attend an advanced course in pain and symptom control. This would help the professional provide better advice to people with cancer on how to manage their symptoms and deal with the pain caused by treatment."
